19 - 23 September 2016
Errol Curling Club (with Bill and Mary Radcliffe acting as key contacts) is ready to host 29 “Welcome the World” visitors from Canada, Denmark, USA and Croatia who will be joined by 24 curlers from Edinburgh, 40 local Perth curlers and 5 wheelchair curlers from Scotland for this event.
The format is a “Jitney Draw” where teams are drawn on the day from all those involved.
The focus for the week is the shared experience of curling based at Dewar’s Centre, and Kinross Ice Rinks. Trips to Stirling, St Andrews, Pitlochry and Crieff are also planned.
Perth and Kinross Council have generously supported this venture.
We hope our visitors will enjoy the scenery, social events and Scottish hospitality as well as our excellent curling facilities.
Games are being played during day time sessions, so come along and watch if you are free and meet some of the curlers from around the world.
...What is Welcome the World?
Welcome the World began in 2011 by the Clif Thompson Senior Curling League at the Stroud Curling Club in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada. The purpose of the Clif Thompson League is to promote the sport of curling among men and women aged 50 and over through the fostering of sportsmanship, fun, and camaraderie. The goal of Welcome the World is to give senior curlers the opportunity to travel, socialize and curl with like‐minded individuals around the world. It is a unique curling experience because participants enter individually and not as a team with others. Future confirmed Welcome the World hosting sites include the Candle Lake Curling Club in Saskatchewan, Canada in 2017 and the Esbjerg Curling Club in Esbjerg, Denmark in 2018.
